If you prefer to create mind maps on your computer’s current settings, then there are other similar programs available like XMind. The catch is that you need to have JRE installed on your computer. It is ideal for listing project tasks, detailing the components of an organization, explaining the concepts of a theory, etc. Today I tried it again and finally found an ideal application SimpleMind that can import/export mind maps using FreeMind format. All other alternatives I've looked into are either to expensive 100+ or bad / hard to work. 1.0.1 Oct 24th, 2014 Older versions Advertisement FreeMind is a Java tool that allows users to create all kinds of conceptual maps and diagrams. Long time ago I have tried to open FreeMind mind map on an Android tablet and failed due to very limited possibilities. I would love an android port or some other great free (or cheap) alternative to freemind. And since I bought a tablet I feel the need to open, edit andcreate new mindmaps on the go with it. It’s open-source, offers manual and automatic editing, and is portable. It is a great app for mindmapping my thoughts. Dated but worthwhile productivity programįreeMind has all the capabilities of a good productivity program to help you gather your thoughts and ideas. It also has features relevant to corporate work and clients such as Slide-Base Presentations, Gantt View, and integration with office suites. New users can easily use this since it has a catalog of templates you can choose from. Mind maps can be exported in multiple formats, including FreeMind and pdf Web app can be used on iPad or Android tablet. It has all the capabilities of this program while offering a bit more in terms of extra features. XMind is a good alternative to FreeMind since it is also available on desktop and mobile. While it is a cross-platform program, it will only run on a system with a Java Runtime Environment. Play Free Mind Game and quickly improve your brain capabilities This simple app is based on exercise designed to increase children IQ, but it works also on. The downside of FreeMind is that it’s written in Java. These developers likely use this program too so you’re sure to get new features. This also means programmers are allowed to contribute new features to the software. Also classified as an open-source program, coders that want to debug and patch its program are welcome to do so since it ensures that it always runs smoothly. It is unique from mind mapping tools since its source code is available online. If you need to share your mind map, you can export your work into HTML, XHTML, PDF, PNG, JPEG, SVD, and OpenDocument. You can also reference external files you can add HTML links and links to files stored in your local drive. Other designs include folding branches, icons on individual nodes, and clouds around branches. It’s a useful function that helps introduce mind maps to beginners. Those that are new to mind maps may want to have the program arrange nodes and branches for you. Just like drawing on paper, you can rearrange the notes in any way that you want or need. PS: Freemind / Freeplane main features should still be interoperable I believe. The programs’ mind maps are created using notes and are joined by branches. They are considering implementing export so I'm keeping an eye on it. MiMind is really good and has an interactive outliner but only allows importing Freemind files at the moment. I've stopped using it - the unrestricted import/export plans are charged on a monthly basis Application Freemind is a meditation app that makes meditation sessions easy to track. So in reality if you make any changes on your PC you need to start over and re-import as a new map. You need to import it in its original Freemind format and then you can work on it in Android and you can of course open it on your desktop via Google drive but the moment you change anything on the PC the app will change the file format to its internal one. MindMeister: free version can access a mm file in Google drive. HalnaMind is Freemind compatible but super simplistic(also has companion Halna Outliner free ![]() Z Mind is old and clunky but free and Freemind compatible. The interface takes some getting used to but it has great gestures("Show gesture panel") which makes interacting with the map very easy - this is the one I use as I originally could import all my mmap maps(PS Dropbox no longer works). Mindjet Maps for Android although very old is your best free bet as it can operate in Freemind mode( in "Settings|Other|General" change file type from mmap to Freemind. This is the one I would buy should I need to do some serious mindmapping.(currently testing the free version) You'll the need the Pro version( feature matrix). ![]() SimpleMind Pro $7.99 is the best for Freemind/Freeplane interoperability.
